The OrT Group has just celebrated the topping-out ceremony for the Main Yard. On this occasion, FAZ Frankfurt reports on the significance of the project for Frankfurt’s city center, our 14 years of development work and the most important urban planning aspects.
The article by Günter Murr emphasizes right at the beginning that the Main Yard is not just the construction of new buildings, but “the creation of a new street”. This gives the city a new impetus in one of its problematic areas, which also reflects European models such as Barcelona and “French medium-sized cities”.
The comprehensive project was initially only made possible by the “former owner of part of the property, real estate entrepreneur Hersch Beker”. According to Manfred Wenzel, he “quickly realized that the concept originally envisaged by the city would not work.”
The “Green Alley” we developed is car-free, as delivery traffic is almost completely served by the underground parking garage. It is called Am Städelshof, starts at a 45° angle from Allerheiligenstraße and runs all the way to Breite Gasse. The result is a lively yet quiet promenade zone with plenty of shady greenery that could serve as a model for Frankfurt. The article quotes Manfred Wenzel: “We believe that up to 20 percent of the streets within the ramparts could be redesigned in a similar way.”
Günter Murr also spoke to Sonja Teicher, the site manager of the developer OrT-Group. She explains that the developer will actively support the new quarter culturally and socially after completion, for example through a permanently installed neighborhood management or cooperation with the “Lola Montez” art club. It will be interesting to see what the new place will feel like in a few years’ time.
